Evaluation of the Structural Performance of Lime-Stabilized cubitermes sp Termite Mound Soil as a Sub-Base Layer for Sustainable Pavements

The scarcity of road materials that can be used directly in the sub-base layer a without preparation has led to use non-conventional materials. This study describes feasibility using hydrated lime-treated cubitermes sp termite mound soils for construction, based on laboratory tests. Tests Atterberg limits, dry density, CBR, compressive strength, static modulus and measurement sinking material under traffic were carried out with different proportions lime (0%, 3%, 5%, 6%, 7%, 9%). results obtained show mechanical properties soil-lime mixtures improve up point fixation at 6% above lime, decrease. simulation rut shows mix, microcracks appear from 20.000 cycles average settlement is 2 mm. friction grains stresses developed by passage wheel reduces bonds mixture. rigidity leads induced slab effect, which gives good behavior hot weather, strain or rutting. connections during setting mixture reduce wheel. Lime welds fines into much larger, more less impermeable particles surface, crumbling attrition, major cause pavement deterioration. optimal mix as wearing course low-traffic earth roads (T1 < 300) treatment upper parts embankments. All these are consolidated X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses.
